Trip to the Susquehanna River

Saturday 9-22-07 : Our Branch had a campout on Friday night at a farm in North East Pennsylvania. I drove up on Saturday morning and arrived just in time for the Survivor competition. We had two teams and an obsticle course to run through. It was a fun morning. After homemade brickoven pizza (amazingly good!), made in their brickoven in their backyard, we piled in some cars and drove the 20min further to Harmony, PA and the Aaronic Priesthood Restoration site. It is a beautiful place. I can see why Joseph and Emma would have decided to live there. (and since it was across the street from the Hale's, Emma's parents.) At this site the Church has put up a few informational signs and some markers of historic places. Also there is a monument sculpture of John the Baptist giving the Priesthood to Joseph and Oliver. My favorite spot was the mound where they believe Joseph and Emma's house was. I that home most of the Book of Mormon was translated. There is a great spirit there along the river!

Me, Colbie, and Joe

This is the Cemetary where Isaac and Elizabeth Hale are burried. (about 100 yards from their home) and it is also where Alvin Smith is burried. Alvin died shortly after birth and was Joseph and Emma's first child.

This was a such a beautiful place!!! As we walked the short trail to the riverbank I couldn't help but have reverance for the events that took place there. This video below shows the river and the inlet were many believe Oliver and Joseph baptized eachother.
